New Bearcat Coach Returns to Scrimmage

The Cat’s had their last tune-up before opening the 2013 season at Mitty next Friday night. San Mateo visited Helm Field with a new head coach that Wildcat fans are most familiar; Kevin Reeves a long time coach at Los Gatos, who first served as an assistant and then the Head Coach of the Frosh-Soph team.

So it would be the meeting of two new field generals as they prepare their teams for the real battles next week. This night would belong to the Cat’s defense who played most of the scrimmage in the Bearcats backfield, and looked ready to face any team in the CCS.

This was not the same old Bearcats however, Coach Reeves has this team playing very well, and it appears as though San Mateo may just have a good season if tonight is any indicator. There were some good plays by Los Gatos that led to big gains, but the Bearcat defense played well and harrassed the Cat’s offense all night.

The Los Gatos offense had some good moments, but a rash of holding calls negated some big plays, and there were some dropped passes that should have been caught. I’m sure Coach Krail will have his team working hard to prepare for a very tough Mitty team as they will meet at Mitty High School next week. My assessment is that if they reduce the penalties and hang on to the ball, the offense will be ready for Mitty, and it should be a great matchup of two superior CCS teams.
