Cats Looked Good in Scrimmage

Los Gatos played against San Mateo Friday night in an 82 play scrimmage, 41 offensive, and 41 defensive. The Cats had a very good night. We scored six touchdowns and made five PAT’s out of five attempts We did not attempt a kick after the defensive TD and gave up only 1 TD and PAT.

The team ran the ball 25 times and passed 16 times, gaining 329 yards on the ground and 144 in the air completing 11 of the 16 passes. Top runners where Andy Heimer and Garret Zeiter, while Jon Impey, Teddy Enfantino, Max Herman, Ben Hopner, Andrew Tjon and Rapheal Shin all contributed good yardage. Hayden Hibberd was 7 of 10 for 100 yards and Bryan Rose was 4 of 5 for 44 more.

Tjon, Zeiter, and Luke Hollander all had two catches, while Dionte Cook, Jake Bevans, Max Friday, Alex Nemirov and Preston Rind all had receptions. On defense, Shane Smith had a 70 yd. interception for a TD, and played well, but the leading tacklers were Blair Gardner with 8 and Preston Rind with 7. Alex Nemirov had 5 tackles and many other players contributed. The starting line played extremely well with Gardner, Taig McNulty, Ryan Bertrand, Chuck Sullivan and Rind all having a strong showing. Everyone played and the Cats got valuable experience at the varsity level in preparation for the opening game this Saturday at Menlo-Atherton High School.

What I will say to sum up this scrimmage is the team showed that they played better than the coaches believed they could, but not quite as well as the players thought they would. Saturday afternoon we are off to Menlo Atherton for day time football. We are looking forward to getting off to a good start to the season, and we hope you all can attend. Menlo-Atherton has a new coach, a new attitude, and should be a force to recon with in the Bay League. They have a game under their belts and they looked very good against a top ranked Wilcox team despite the loss. This game should be interesting. The Frosh-Soph will play at 11 am and the Varsity game is set for 2.

Thanks for all the support. Coach Cattolico
