Cats continue 29 year streak; Heading to the Playoffs

The Cats went out and played a great second half of football against Homestead last Friday night. It was a tough physical game but the Cats came away with a 42-14 win over the Mustangs on Senior Night. With that the win, Los Gatos continued a streak of over 29 years in which the Wildcats have qualifying for the playoffs. If we can win on Friday night at Gunn High School, Los Gatos will finish second place in the very tough De Anza League, and guarantee themselves another winning season.

Blair Gardner was outstanding as usual Friday night, but he went beyond that when he snatched a fumble in mid air and ran it back 30 yards for a touchdown. At that point in the game the score was 14-7 Los Gatos, and it looked like a big break, but it was just a start to the offensive explosion. The next time we got the ball, Garret Zeiter had a 68 yard touchdown run to make it 28-7, followed shortly after that by a Hayden Hibberd 76 yard pass to Tyler Olivet to make it 35-7.

The remainder of the game amounted to the coaches trying to get a lot of different players onto the field.Ben Hopner had a big night with 40 yards in 3 carries, while Andy Heimer and Garret Zeiter also did a great job. Jon Impey also had a very productive evening and Shane Smith lead the team in tackles. Taig McNulty, Preston Rind, Max Herman, Landon Cramer, Sean Neimann, Andrew Tjon, Teddy Enfantino and Dionte Cook also played well on the defensive side of the ball. Tyler Olivet had a great interception to go along with his TD and Derek Dombrowsky recoverd a fumble as well.

Another standout was Ryan Stojanovich on defense. Again, thanks for all the support and let’s hope we can put our first 3 game win streak together Friday night at Gunn.
